Recoleta

It is a part of Barrio Norte, considered one of the most residential, elegant and asked for areas of Buenos Aires. It is characterized by its French style, big open spaces, exclusive avenues, and first quality coffee shops and restaurants. It is only ten minutes away from downtown BA:

In its origins, this neighborhood was formed by small farms and huts. At the beginning of the XVIIth century a piece of land was granted by a married couple to the Recoletos Order. Beside their name, the religious order contributed to the neighborhood by building a convent and the Church Our Lady of Pilar (in 1706), which was of vital importance for the local development. In 1871, during a yellow fever epidemic, wealthy families decided to move to Recoleta. This gave an elegant style to the neighborhood, with the construction of palaces and very large houses surrounded by important gardens. Many travelers see this neighborhood as a piece of Paris. It also has a great cultural activity, with many art galleries.Recoleta has a great night life.

There are a variety of restaurants, pubs and night clubs, centered around the streets that surround the cemetery (Junín, Azcuénaga and Vicente Lopez), that grant a special character to the place. During weekends, you might find free shows (musicals, plays, etc.). There is also a fair of artisans.
Here you may find numerous places of interest such as the National Museum of Fine Arts, the Recoleta Cultural Center, the Palais de Glace -art exhibitions-, the National Library or the historical Recoleta Cemetery.
